Janjira is the only Marine fort (Jaldurg), could be won by Shri Shivaji maharaj.
The local guide said that the main reason for the fort is remained undefeated is it is surrounded by water by all sides.Though the enemy tries to attack, the guards can easily notice them and fail their attack immediately.
Murud is almost 60 km away from Alibag. You can stay near Alibag,Nagaon or Akshi beach and visit this fort and places around this.IT can be covered in one day trip from Pune or Mumbai.
To reach to the fort,you have to drive till Rajapuri village, generally called Murud fort. The ticket window is on 15 min walking distance from the paid parking.The boat stop is near the ticket window only.
The Boatman will guide you for getting into boat without any safety jacket.Once you reach to the fort, the same boat will take you back after your fort visit. After 30 min boat-ride, you will reach to actual fort. Paid help of tourist guide will be provided by your boatman only.There is very much scope for bargaining.
The guide will entertain you by typical hindi-urdu shayari with providing information about fort.
In the fort, you can see small ponds,underground tunnels and one so called AC hall.
Once you come back on boat stop, you can enjoy on beaches around there.
